Spanish Major (Class of 2024 and Beyond)


Students are required to complete the language sequence up to and including Advanced SPAN 211 or demonstrate equivalent proficiency that would allow for advanced placement.

The major consists of a minimum of seven courses beyond SPAN 211 or 215.

Following completion of the language sequence, majors are required to take at least five courses at the 300-level including at least two courses from Foundations in Hispanophone Studies:

SPAN 300-339

At least one from Focused Themes of Inquiry:

SPAN 340-380

Two 400-level seminars:

SPAN 435Research Seminar in Hispanic Literature and Civilization

SPAN 436Research Seminar in Hispanic Culture and Civilization
